Foundations of Realistic Drawing I, II,III & IV

​

***Available for VAPA / A-G credit!***

This class is for you if you...

​

  • ...are serious about wanting to become advanced in your skills to draw with extreme realism

  • ...are a teen of any skill level who wants to master drawing skills

  • ...have patience to spend several hours on a drawing each project 

  • ...want to draw animals, people, optical illusions, and more!

​

Who is this NOT for? I would recommend you take one of my other classes instead if you...

​

  • ...prefer to finish each picture in a short amount of time (If this is you, I'd recommend Watercolor Pencils and Watercolor Markers)

  • ...prefer to draw from your imagination (If this is you, I'd recommend Watercolor Painting - Fun and Easy).

  • ...are not yet in high school (All of the Fun and Easy classes as well as Watercolor Pencils and Markers are great for kids)

You will learn: Students will increase their realistic drawing skills while completing fun and detailed drawings. 

 

Most of the projects are black-and-white graphite shading. Students will copy detailed artwork by the Old Masters of the Renaissance and other subject matter. 

 

Time per week: The time commitment is customized to each student, but tends to take between an hour a week to up to an hour a day depending on the students' goals and whether they do extra credit assignments. 

​

Length of semester: Most students complete the course in 14 - 18 weeks. Charter students: please put 3 months on the PO, even though you will have access for 5 months.

​

Tuition per semester is $387 for each student. Two semesters are offered, and you can take either part of the course either semester although it's recommended to take Part 1 before Part 2.

Creative Photography I & II | Age 8 - 13 | Phone or DSLR

Take amazing photos with your smartphone, digital camera, or D-SLR!

​

Topics include: taking photos of your pet, taking photos of your toys, create and photography an I Spy inspired scene, composition, design, perspective illusions, portraits, posing, selfies, food photography, etc. Topics are subject to change.

 

You will create an online portfolio with your best images. Participate in fun photo challenges to practice key skills!

​

I personally give feedback on 14 photos per student, providing encouragement and answering all questions.

 

Supplies: We will not be adjusting camera settings in this class, so you can use any type of camera or phone. Students can watch the videos on their computer, iPad, Kindle Fire, or smartphone. If students want to learn DSLR settings in part 2, let the instructor, Meg, know!

 Part II - This is a continuation of part one. In this class, students will continue to build on the skills of part 1. Topics will be based on student requests of the first few students who enroll, so if you have special requests, please let Meg know ASAP.

Animal Drawing - Fun and Easy

​Learn to draw adorable and ferocious animals! Turn washable markers into paint, and have fun with watercolor pencils! You will also learn to use gel pens and gel crayons. And if you don't have all those supplies, you can substitute what you already own.

 

There are 14 weeks of content, and most students spend about an hour a week or less on this class. You get access for more than 14 weeks.

Realistic Watercolor Landscapes, Flowers, and Animals

This class is for you if you...

​

  • ...are ages 10 - 18 and want to take your skills to the next level

  • ...are under age 10 but have a ton of art experience

  • ...love animals and nature

  • ....want to create realistic and whimsical watercolor scenes

  • ...want to spend 1 - 2 hours on each project (but this will be broken up into weekly lessons of about an hour each).

Learn to draw realistic looking animals and nature! This class focuses on the realistic but not hyper-detailed photo-realistic style. Students will learn to paint with vibrant color and add depth to their art to make it pop!

​

Draw Minecraft Animals

Embark on a creative adventure as you learn to draw your favorite Minecraft animals in this engaging and fun-filled class. Through a series of pre-recorded video lessons, you'll delve into the pixelated world of Minecraft and master the art of bringing its charming animals to life on paper.

Animal Drawing - Intermediate

This class is for you if you...

​

  • ...are ages 9 or older and have taken an art class before OR are ages 12 or older and have never drawn before

  • ...love animals!

  • ...wish to improve your drawing skills 

  • ...want to learn to use various types of art supplies to create vibrantly colorful works of art

​

 

Learn to draw lifelike animals using brush pens, graphite pencils, and colored pencils.

 

There are 14 lessons in this course, and you will learn to draw 8 different animals. Each lesson will take you about one hour total or maybe a little longer. 

​

Watercolor Pencils and Watercolor Markers

This class is for you if you...

​

  • ...are ages 5 - 10 and have a little bit of art experience OR are ages 10 and up and have never drawn before

  • ...want to learn to draw a wide variety of things including animals, nature, and famous historical landmarks such as pyramids and the Mayflower

  • ...wish to improve your drawing skills 

  • ...want to learn to use watercolor pencils and watercolor markers to create vibrantly colorful works of art

  • ...want to learn to draw realistic pictures (this class teaches the realistic style, not the photo-realistic style)

  • ...prefer spending about an hour on each picture

Manga/Anime  and Colored Pencils

Students will learn to design their own manga / anime characters. Learn to draw the features of the face, portrait and body proportions, hair, clothing, and more! Use colored pencils to create colorful artwork that pops. Students can design their own characters and clothing or may copy instructor Meg Navarro’s designs. All drawings that Meg demonstrates are clean and appropriate.

Creative Writing Class Part 1 & 2

Write a novel or short stories! Craft a spellbinding plot, invent dynamic characters, and participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) as you write your original story or fanfiction! $350 for the self-study course. CWC Part II $350

Edit your novel or short stories and self-publish your book on Amazon! Improve your ability to write with all five senses, use proper grammar, and learn how to effectively use sentence openers and dress-ups (unofficially: IEW style!). $350 for the self-study course. Kahoot grammar games are included.

Photography for Ages 10 to 14

Discover the exciting world of photography and learn how to capture stunning images that tell stories and evoke emotions as well as learn how to evaluate photos. In this engaging class, you'll explore the fundamental concepts of photography, unleash your creativity, and develop your skills behind the lens.

Take amazing photos with your smartphone, digital camera, or D-SLR!

You will create an online portfolio to exhibit your best images. Participate in fun photo challenges to practice key skills!

​

You will learn: portraits, posing, creative photography, food photography, landscapes, concept photography, and so much more!

 

Part 1 of the course is focused on adding creativity and emotional impact to your photos, design, and composition.

​

Part 2 builds on Part 1 while also teaching students how to use all the settings of their camera, aperture, shutter speed, etc. Students who do not have a D-SLR or camera that adjusts settings will still be able to learn a lot and enjoy the class, but if you are able to get a D-SLR, that would be great!

​

I personally critique 14 photos per student, providing detailed feedback.

 

Supplies: You can use any type of camera or phone or D-SLR. If you have a D-SLR, you will be able to learn to use just about every setting! Students can watch the videos on their computer, iPad, Kindle Fire, or smartphone.

​

Time per week: The time commitment is customized to each student, but tends to take between an hour a week to up to an hour a day depending on the students' goals and whether they do extra credit assignments. Videos lessons are detailed, yet as short as possible so that you can spend your time actually taking photos.  There are a ton of bonus lessons in this course in PDF format as well as some bonus video lessons, so you can spend as much time as you want!

Watercolor Painting -

Fun & Easy

This class is for you if you want to...

​

  • Let your creativity soar!

  • Create abstract works of art 

  • Turn your art into greeting cards

  • Design beautiful watercolor paintings

  • Complete a bunch of quick and easy art projects

  • Get a little messy at times (some adult supervision is required for the younger students)

 

Students will learn how to:

 

  • Use shaving cream to create a marbling affect

  • Mix and blend colors

  • Find out how to use a paper doily to create lace texture

  • Add salt, rice, oil, plastic wrap and other kitchen items for a variety of textures

  • Paint on canvas and paper using watercolors

  • Learn what you must do if you want to avoid accidentally mixing up muddy colors

  • Create abstract paintings, which you can frame or turn into greeting cards.

  • Make 3-D textures using glue and watercolors

  • Dip your painting in bubbles to create a fun abstract painting

  • Use Q-tips to create pointillism flowers

 

Time: Most students spend about 30 minutes or less per week for 14 weeks. There are 14 lessons in this class.

 

Location: Online. No driving required! Watch the pre-recorded videos and draw from the comfort of your own home or on the go!

 

Format: Online pre-recorded class with unlimited instructor support.

 

How Does it Work? Students watch fun and engaging pre-recorded videos, and they draw along as I demonstrate step-by-step. Students can send me photos of their art and ask questions anytime via text or a voice recording app that works on phone, iPad, or computer, so they never have to worry about getting stuck. I respond right away or within 24 hours.
