What are Online Pods and Why You Should Consider Enrolling Your Kids in One

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

The online pod is a hybrid of the condensed student numbers in a closed quarter setting.

While we see a light at the end of this pandemic riddled tunnel, Keeping vigilant with our children’s safety is imperative but it doesn’t mean that we have to deprive them of socializing with other kids. The concept of learning pods is an up-and-coming trend bordering on the trend thats-here-to-stay. The thing is, some parents feel weary of live school attendance no matter how condensed the number might be. So what are our options? Homeschooling our kids, online classes, options that contain all that pent up energy that drives kids as well as parents up the wall. Sounds dismal, I know, but fear not! We have another alternative. The online pod is a hybrid of the condensed student numbers in a virtual setting!

What is an Online Pod?

Online pods are online classes that the same set of students take together. There is a set schedule and a varied amount of classes that learneers take simultaneously just as they would in a normal class setting.

This opens up the possibility for socialization in addition to having a structured itinerary.

What Makes an Online Pod Different From Online Classes?

Unlike online classes where your child might see different students or a large number of pupils at every class, an online pod condenses that number to no more than 3-12 learners in a class. This allows the children to see the same group of children onscreen for a significant amount of time. This opens up the possibility for socialization in addition to having a structured itinerary.

How Do the Students Socialize On an Online Platform?

An online platform such as zoom or google hangouts provide a chat feature so that students may exchange words. Believe us, they will make use of that toggle. The teacher might also make use of the learning platform for students to read out loud, share their work, have group tasks, discussions, and many more. So the chance to socialize is encouraged and utilized.

Access to interesting classes students may not have been able to find on their own.

Alexandra McCarty

Brings a predictable rhythm to each learner’s school day. They can count on having online class at the same time each day.

Consistent time and day makes online learning schedules easier to manage for busy parents.

Matt Trammell

Having a group of teachers that have worked together presents a more cohesive curriculum than just trying to piece it together themselves. Same kids potentially and same teachers all year if they choose to continue

Michelle Elaine Morningstar

Cross curricular activities/lessons/dovetailing can be a thing, consistent schedule, time for building relationships for both students/students,teachers/students and teacher/teacher, novelty and fun, part of an innovative program, discounted classes as part of a package, some classes are bundled specifically so it gives the “taste” without the commitment
